The Cataracts is a Hockey Tournament for ages 20 to 70+ held in Niagara Falls Ontario
in March each year and does include a Ladies 20+ Open Division.

February 02, 2023

We will be accepting  Applications until February 10, 2023.

We need at least 2 good 'A' level teams for the 20+ Division.
The following Age Divisions also each need two more teams in their Division
   Divisions  35+,  45+,  50+  and  55+.
We have a number of teams registered that might be a fit for these categories but we
need more teams to help with the seeding resulting in competitive 4 team Divisions.
The Cataracts Tournament Committee asks all teams that are planning to stay in our city
for a night or two to PLEASE use one of our sponsoring Hotels that are listed on our Hotels
webpage, link is above. These hotels help support our charities.

Interested Teams should Apply now.  Submit a form from the  'Application' page above.

A note from the the Cataracts Tournament Chairman:

Dear Teams and Team Contacts;
I hope all is well with your team members and I hope to see you back in Niagara Falls in March,
Thank you to the teams that have already registered and now we hope  many more of you will submit your application. We would love to see the tourney back to being full as it always was prior to Covid shutting us down.
This tournament is now accepting applications from New and teams that attended in the past.

After Covid allowed us to operate again last year we had
55 teams. We felt this was a resounding success and hopefully we can get back to having 76 to 80 teams return like we've had in the past prior to Covid.
Your roster and the player information on it are a big part of seeding and we ask for your cooperation on being honest with the information on the age and ability of your players.  Almost every division in Oldtimers has two or three players younger on their roster,  so we try to match the seeding as close to ages as possible using the history on how each team has done in past Tournaments and the information on Players found on each Roster.
We really need your help in supporting our Sponsoring Hotels. Your support of our Hotels helps ensure that we receive a Rebate that we give to our many charities each year. We are proud of our support for these charities, but we need your cooperation to make this work.  (A list of our Hotels and Hotel Contact Information can be found on our 'Hotels' page. Your cooperation on this will be much appreciated by the Tournament and our Charities.
Once again we hope your team will return to our Tournament. Your Team Roster should be in our hands by Feb.
15, 2023 or earlier.  As I said above,  Rosters help us to seed teams to be in their proper divisions.
This will not always be perfect,  but we do our best.
ENTRY FEE & APPLICATIONS: Please submit your applications asap and your $
500.00 Down Payment or complete payment by Dec. 15th.  The balance must be paid by Feb. 1 st , 2023. Entry Fee for this tournament is $930.00 and this includes your team's draw tickets for our large Prize Table.  This is a big booster for our Charities.  By paying with your entry fee means less Handling of actual cash at the tournament. We will also sell limited tickets at the arena.
Get your Application by clicking on 'Application' above.

different size ads for our tournament Sponsors.  The ads on Banners are much
larger and more visible than they were in our Program.  A number of copies

                                   Tournament  HISTORY

For 32 years until 2016 the Niagara Falls Cataracts Hockey Tournament was operated by lifelong Niagara Falls resident Ralph Biamonte. Ralph retired after the 2016 Tournament and Ralph's long time friend Winston Auld took over coordinating the Tournament.  Ralph assisted with this transition.

The new committee promises to do it's best to keep this great tournament running as smoothly as in previous years and with as competitive divisions as possible. Winston brought 39 years of experience to the table from the Auld Reid Tournament that he has been involved with since it started in 1977.  The Cataracts hosts 75+ teams each year.

The Tournament arenas are located in close proximity to the main action places in Niagara Falls. All Hotels and Casinos are within a 5 to 10 minute drive to the arenas.

When Teams Apply they must submit their Roster at the same time. The Tournament needs Rosters when seeding teams. We look at the Age and Experience of each player when seeding teams. We also use the history of players/teams that played in the Cataracts previously.

Hotels: A big part of the Cataracts Tournament is donating to a number of local Charities in Niagara Falls each year. In that regard the Tournament secures advantageous hotel room rates in advance for participating teams. We send the list of hotels to each team when they Apply and this list of Sponsoring Hotels is also available by clicking on 'Hotels' above.
The Tournament needs your team to support these Sponsoring Hotels.
